Adaptive multiscale modeling and analysis of nonlinear thermoelastic composites

Fachliche Zuordnung Mechanik
Förderung Förderung von 2007 bis 2015
Projektkennung Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Projektnummer 35286377

Adaptive multiscale modeling and analysis of heterogeneous materials is a research theme that is attracting a growing interest in the field of computational mechanics. Based on a scale adaptation approach that was developed during the first phase of this research project, a partial shift of research emphasis from path-dependent purely mechanical problems to path-independent multiphysics problems is proposed as a previously unexplored theme of adaptivity. Through a series of multiscale problems starting with linearized thermal conduction to fully coupled nonlinear thermoelasticity in composite media, the fundamental contributions of the proposed research agenda are aimed towards an efficient and verifiable adaptive computational strategy based on novel thermomechanical homogenization techniques. In this sense, this proposal will also assist in the efforts towards the establishment of robust and practically relevant adaptive multiscale approaches that are needed for the analysis of similar microheterogeneous problems in a multiphysics context.
