Project Details
Low power sensor node with photovoltaic power supply for wireless-based monitoring of thread cutting and thread inspection processes (T08#)
Subject Area
Electronic Semiconductors, Components and Circuits, Integrated Systems, Sensor Technology, Theoretical Electrical Engineering
Term
from 2017 to 2020
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5486368
The aim of this project is the development of an industrial-suited low power sensor node for process monitoring of fast rotating metal tools in machine tools. The reading of the data and the power supply of the battery-less sensor node is to take place wirelessly. Backscatter modulation at 24 GHz is used for the radio communication. Power is supplied photovoltaic by means of solar cells. The field of application within the machine tool (oil, coolant) results in a difficult radio channel and in major challenges in the optical power supply and the industry-standard integration into the tool holder. The project builds on research results of the subproject L2 in the Collaborative Research Centre.
