Mechanism-based modelling of wear in sheet-bulk metal forming (C07*)

Wear is modelled on the contact zone level so as to retrieve the mechanisms of the meso-scale within the macro simulation. The project therefore contributes to the simulation-based design of tool surfac-es with an improved durability. The model does not implement any Archard model, but simulates abrasion mechanisms directly at the mesoscale level - abrasion results from separation of surface material. This type of modelling enables a mechanism-based prediction of wear behaviour and thus contributes to the understanding and design of the tribological system. The methodological approach shall draw on and further develop the Particle Finite Element Method for the underlying solids and the lubricant.
