Temporality and modalization in discourse structure (C02)

Subject Area Individual Linguistics, Historical Linguistics
Term since 2017
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 281511265

Project Description

Project C02 specializes in the role of prominence in temporal discourse structure and argumentative orientation. In phase III, we complement our account with the integration of mood and modalization. We consider modalization in discourse by addressing the discourse structural and prominence properties of tense-aspect and mood choice with respect to (1) propositional attitudes, (2) dream contexts and (3) free indirect discourse (FID) in Romance languages. Thereby, we intend to gain in-depth insights into the role of modalization in discourse-structuring and its effect on prominence relations in multi-layered discourse.
