Stellar production sites of heavy elements and their observable imprints on the Milky Way (A10)

Subject Area Astrophysics and Astronomy
Term from 2017 to 2022
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 138713538

Project Description

Recent stellar surveys and numerical simulations provide us with a detailed picture of the chemical evolution of the Milky Way. To fully exploit the potential of these studies, an improved char-acterization of the production sites of heavy elements is mandatory. We aim to develop, validate, and apply a new model for Fe-peak and r-process elements in an approach that combines ob-servational constraints obtained from state-of-the-art 3-D non-local thermodynamical equilibrium abundance measurements in Galactic disk and halo stars with hydrodynamical simulations of thermonuclear supernovae and neutron star mergers covering a wide parameter range.
