Subject Area
General and Comparative Linguistics, Experimental Linguistics, Typology, Non-European Languages
Term
since 2017
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 281511265
In this project, we aim to refine our model of prosodic prominence, investigating which features contribute to prominence, with a particular focus on how prosodic weight and tonal events can be characterized in terms of the relation between F0 and periodic energy, and how acoustic landmarks of syllabic structure are synchronized with speech accompanying beat gestures. Studying the multimodal and perceptual processing of H tones in German and Maltese English, in particular when these tones are on unstressed syllables, will reveal differences between (universal) signal prominence and (language-specific) code prominence.
