There are complex, scientific relationships between volume properties (molar volume, refractive index) and solvatochromic polarizability parameters (SP) of ionic liquids that were unpredictable. The interpretation of the correlations requires additional measurements to determine the dipolarity (SdP) of ionic liquids. Therefore, SdP values for the ionic liquids are to be determined with the aid of new 2-phenyl-substituted imidazole and imidazolium derivatives as dipolar fluorescence probes. An important point is the verification or independent determination of SdP values of ionic liquids via two-parameter equation relationships according to the Kamlet-Taft parameters. The preparation of new boronate-substituted dyes for determining the polarizability (SP) of ionic liquids is also planned.
