Investigations during the first funding period have shown that an adaptation of load-bearing structures allows for resource and emission savings and that these savings can be further increased by designing optimized adaptive structures from the beginning, as opposed to adding adaptivity to an optimized passive structure. In A06, adaptive structural typologies, which are also optimized in terms of envi-ronmental impact, are being developed for high-rise buildings. Closely related to the optimal adaptive structural typology is the applied actuation concept and the goal of adaptation. As a result, existing actuator and actuation schemes will be refined, new actuation con-cepts will be developed and different goals of adaptation will be investigated in A06. The design algorithms will be supplemented by new objectives and enhanced by a dynamic nonlinear analysis.
