System concepts and planning methods for building physical design and operation of adaptive buildings (A05)

Subject Area Construction Material Sciences, Chemistry, Building Physics
Automation, Mechatronics, Control Systems, Intelligent Technical Systems, Robotics
Term since 2017
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 279064222

Project A05 deals with the question of how to select, dimension and operate adaptive components for the thermal conditioning of a building. Using predictive optimization, a variety of elements with storage capability can compensate for the fluctuating environmental conditions over the course of a year. To this end, a thermochemical energy storage based on calcium oxide will be further developed for building applications and demonstrated. This technology allows to collect and store electrical energy over long periods and to use it for thermal management in the winter. This long-term storage capability poses new challenges for the planning methodology, e.g. due to the high uncertainty of weather forecasts. In order to optimize the life cycle assessment, a superordinate design strategy is developed that selects and parameterizes adaptive components.
