Project Description

In fundamental models of many-body physics the coupling between fermions and bosons leads to a rich phase structure and dynamical behavior. Our project aims to explore the dynamics of quantum impurities in a fermionic medium (Fermi polarons) by means of ultracold mixtures of fermionic and bosonic atoms at extreme mass imbalance. In a concerted theoretical-experimental approach we will study how the mixture behaves at varying interactions and increasing boson densities and how signatures of Anderson orthogonality catastrophe can be revealed.
