From few to many: ultracold atoms in reduced dimensions (C02)

Subject Area Optics, Quantum Optics and Physics of Atoms, Molecules and Plasmas
Term from 2016 to 2024
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 273811115

Project Description

The relation between few- and many-body dynamics in an isolated quantum system opens up a new path toward understanding the strongly interacting regime. Our project aims to realize a homogeneous two-dimensional Fermi gas of ultracold lithium atoms and to explore the correlations between particles, in order to reveal the phase structure of the many-body system. In a joint experiment-theory effort we will study pairing fluctuations near the superfluid phase transition, and how they affect the universal transport properties of quantum fluids.
