Project B7 investigates crystal defects in single crystal Ni-based superalloys. In the third funding period, the following aspects will be addressed: (1) Influence of alloy compositions and solidification conditions on the formation of defects and further microstructural evolution during post-cast heat treatments. (2) Effects of defects on creep. (3) Further development of new techniques for the characterization of crystal mosaicity in superalloys. (4) Validation of microstructural results obtained from thin film combinatorial materials libraries (project B5) in bulk materials.
