Project Description

The work plan for sub-project A08 is divided into clearly defined phases allocated over the four-year period from July 2019 to June 2023. The first six months will be spent conducting a comprehensive survey of relevant literature and obtaining an understanding of the transformation processes that have taken place in Thai and Lao manuscript cultures. The three years that follow will include both fieldwork and archival study, starting with the regional focus of the first phase, Laos and northern Thailand, in 2020. This is to be followed by research on Tai minority areas in northern Laos and China (in 2021) and then in Myanmar (in 2022) and central Thailand.
