Hybrid areas in components with a high fatigue life under stress induced by combinations of rolling, torsion and structural loads (C03)

Subject Area Engineering Design, Machine Elements, Product Development
Term since 2015
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 252662854

Project Description

The subproject C03 investigates the fatigue behavior of hybrid components under rolling contact stress. A crack simulation is added to the existing fatigue life model. The simulation calculates crack growth, starting from welding and forming defects. Critical defects, such as pores in the highly stressed material area, are investigated simulatively and experimentally and provide information on the fatigue behavior of the demonstrators. Analyses such as ultrasonic microscopy are used to evaluate the quality of the material and the process chain, and optimizations are fed back to the manufacturing subprojects. Furthermore, experimental investigations are carried out on the demonstrators subjected to rolling loads.
