Ultrasound-assisted laser welding for the generation of formable mixed compounds (A03)

Subject Area Joining and Separation Technology
Term since 2015
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 252662854

Project Description

The aim of subproject A03 is to investigate the grain-refining capabilities of high-amplitude ultrasonic fields generated in a controlled manner during laser-beam welding. The necessary stabilization of the welding process is generated by beam shaping and laser-power modulation. In addition, we want to explore how multivariable control, based on quality characteristics in the process (weld protrusion, weld penetration depth and spatter formation), can be used to minimize cracking from weld to weld. As important factors of influence, the effects of acoustic softening and acoustic hardening within the weld seam and the heat-affected zone are analyzed during cooling after welding.
