Project Details
A Ring-Expansion-Aromatization Strategy for the Synthesis of Functionalized Arenes and Heteroarenes (B11*)
Subject Area
Organic Molecular Chemistry - Synthesis and Characterisation
Term
from 2015 to 2017
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 27112786
A novel synthesis of 3-hydroxybenzoates and halogenated 3-hydroxynaphthoates based on a ringexpansion-aromatization reaction sequence will be investigated. This method allows novelretrosynthetic bond disconnections for chemical synthesis and its application in natural productchemistry will be tested. The programmed synthesis of hexasubstituted phenols should be accomplished via a tandem ring-expansion/1,2-rearrangement strategy. Extending the reaction to substrates having a functionalized a-substituent should allow for the preparation of polycyclic ring structures in one step.
