Authority of Schenoute and Authorization by Shenoute in Miaphysite Christianity in Egypt (B05)

The subproject bases itself on the digital analysis of the reuse of authoritative texts (the Coptic-Sahidic Bible) in selected writings of the Egyptian abbot Shenoute (d. 465), which was conducted in the first funding period. In the second funding period, the subproject will examine how subsequent religious scholars construct their own form of teaching authority on the basis of and in dialogue with the textual tradition of the monastic community – which has Shenoute as its cornerstone.
