Using D17O of sedimentary carbonate as a new single phase thermometer - Were the Archean oceans really hot or did they only have had lower d18O values?

The environmental condition and thus habitability of the Early Earth is best documented by supergene sediments. In this project we aim to determine both, the isotopic composition and temperature of Archean oceans. We apply a new approach that is based on high precision measurement of d17O and d18O of carbonates.
