The project aims at a Repertorium of all teachers of five Westphalian gymnasia between 1588 and 1773. Personal data concerning age, education, professional experience and aptitude will give different profiles of staffs of teachers with respect to a special decade. The level of education, studies and specialization of all teachers has to be shown precisely. Especially it will be asked for didactic preparation of teachers. Former statements of other researchers that teacher training colleges did not start before the middle of the 18th century or even later will be questioned. We will get relevant data from the "Catalogi breves" and "Catalogi triennales" that are kept in the "Archivum Romanum Societatis Iesu" at Rome. These data will be transferred into our database "Biographies of teachers of Westphalian gymnasia" for further analyses. Quantitative analyses will be completed by qualitative ones, especially in examining disputations of the Gymnasium Paulinum at Münster. Results will be compared to Westphalian Lutheran and reformed schools. It has to be considered whether or not the Jesuit staff of teachers went down in the decades before 1773 in lack of personal aptitude, qualification, didactic ability, teaching experience or because it was superannuated.
