The objective of this project is to work out a key factor in social coordination processes: the affective dimension of collective intentionality. The major innovation is to conceive collective affective intentionality in terms of embodiment, thereby overcoming the shortcomings of current approaches in the field which have their focus on the structures of mental states only (Searle, Gilbert, Helm, Schmid, etc.). The investigation will draw upon the phenomenological tradition in order to specify the constitutive role of embodied affective intentionality in social coordination. As a result, the project will contribute to a more adequate conceptualization of social phenomena. The project is to be hosted by the Center for Subjectivity Research in Copenhagen which has a leading specialization in topics highly relevant to it: embodiment, intentionality, empathy, and social cognition etc. Moreover, collective intentionality is among the topics of the current research at the Center.
