Neuroendocrine control of atherogenesis (A04)

Subject Area Endocrinology, Diabetology, Metabolism
Term since 2014
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 238187445

Project Description

CNS is an important regulator of systemic lipid metabolism and immune function. Key pathways of this neuroendocrine network are under direct control of gut hormones. Previously we showed that specific gut peptide polyagonists improve dyslipidemia, systemic inflammatory status and CVD. We will examine the functional relevance of novel bioengineered drugs designed to improve systemic metabolism via CNS mechanisms with a focus on hypothalamic chemokine signaling. We ultimately aim to develop novel personalized therapeutic strategies to effectively treat atherosclerosis in conjunction with reversing obesity and rescuing impaired glucose metabolism.
