Characterization of materials and processes on the nanoscale is the central service that ICAN offers to users and external partners. The existing instrumentation comprises a broad spectrum of analytical methods, ranging from electron microscopy and scanning probe microscopy, various (photo) electron spectroscopic and diffraction techniques, and local optical probes to time resolved spectroscopy and diffraction. The range of equipment thus enables the analytics on the nanoscale with high resolution in time, space and energy, as well as element-specific characterization on the nanoscale. A central point of contact enables an efficient and solution oriented usage of the existing expertise and equipment. Here, apart from individual solutions, also combinations of different approaches can be offered. The preparation of the sample material constitutes an important step in addressing the scientific questions related to nanoanalytics and is therefore also offered as a service. Existing and newly generated knowledge as well as expertise and scientific equipment for nanoanalytics at the University Duisburg-Essen will be streamlined and made available both internally and externally. This way, an up-to-date knowledge base will be offered, which includes the accompanying services.
