Interactions in nuclear systems ((08) N01)

Subject Area Nuclear and Elementary Particle Physics, Quantum Mechanics, Relativity, Fields
Term from 2012 to 2020
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 204404729

The project is dedicated to the experimental and theoretical study of nuclei as strongly interacting systems using electro-weak probes. Motivated by the enormous progress in chiral effective field theory, it aims at developing a systematic understanding of nuclei by combining state-of-the-art theoretical methods with cutting edge experiments. One of the major goals is the study of the neutron-skin thickness of heavy nuclei-both at MAMI and MESA which is relevant in astrophysics. Computations of nuclear structure corrections in muonic atoms will continue impacting atomic physics. Furthermore, the theoretical and experimental efforts to determine the nuclear response functions from high-precision electron scattering on light nuclei will help elucidating the mechanisms that govern also neutrino-nucleus cross sections, relevant to particle physics.
