Project Details
Single crystal solidification with enhanced microstructure (B01)
Subject Area
Metallurgical, Thermal and Thermomechanical Treatment of Materials
Term
from 2012 to 2023
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 190389738
Project B1 explores the newly developed FCBC (Fluidized Carbon Bed Cooling) method for single-crystal casting of superalloys. The goal is to deepen the understanding of the process and to explore the process limits. Supported by advanced process models as well as the material and hydrodynamic optimization of the fluidized bed and the dynamic baffle, the potential for refining the cast structure is to be fully exploited. The improved casting quality of this method is evaluated by casts of industrial dimension and used to develop new Ni and Co base superalloys.
