Project A5 elucidates the mechanisms affecting the early stages of high temperature oxidation of single crystalline Co- and Ni-based superalloys. Primarily based on thermogravimetric analyses (isothermal oxidation) and on the evaluation of cross-sections the impact of both, chemical composition and microstructure, as well as the effect of surface modification strategies to foster protective scale growth during exposure will be investigated.
