Based on the results of four field campaigns (2012-2015) in Dzehkabtun, a pre to postclassic Maya site in northern Campeche, Mexico, the current research project aims to continue the analysis of the sociopolitical context at the transition from terminal classic to epiclassic Maya society (850 - 1100 A.D.). The 2015 excavations in the southeastern peripheric part of the site shall be continued to allow a detailed study on the settlement development and organization during the Terminal Classic. This project aims - based on our work in Dzehkabtun - to make a substantial contribution to clarifying the question of socioeconomic and political continuities and disruptions since the Classic, as well as the causes and consequences of the known changes for the resident population of this settlement. Furthermore, we will continue to gather more data on the so far archaeologically little-known transitional area between the Puuc and Chenes regions in the northern part of the Yucatán peninsula.
