It is proposed to explore new avenues for materials and process simulation by the development of a new generation of physics-based mesoscopic material models on the basis of solitary elements that will allow generic large scale parallel simulation. Such models are designed to allow the full exploitation of the power of supercomputers for true through-process modeling and will assist inverse materials modeling. It is expected that this will substantially enlarge the size and time frame of modeled material systems, enable simultaneous simulation of concurrent microstructural processes, lend itself for modeling of complex process chains, and may offer on-line process control on a physical basis.
