NMR Investigations of the Self Organization and Dynamics of Amyloid Protein Fibrils (A06)

Subject Area Statistical Physics, Nonlinear Dynamics, Complex Systems, Soft and Fluid Matter, Biological Physics
Experimental and Theoretical Physics of Polymers
Term from 2011 to 2023
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 189853844

Project Description

The goal of the project is to understand the fundamental basis of protein fibril formation. We study the different stages of the self-organization process and the structure and dynamics of the protein by NMR methods. To this end, we systematically alter well-known molecular contacts of amyloid β (Aβ40) peptides by introducing specific physical fields into these positions or modifying larger segments of the amyloid structure. These modifications act as internal constraints on the structure forming process.
