The project studies the period 1825-1925 in Nepalese Sanskrit manuscript culture. This is a period of changes and innovations, many of which show the influence of (Western) book-culture and Western-style Indological scholarship. This influence will be investigated and clarified in detail through the minute study of a corpus of 40 Nepalese paper manuscripts preserved in Nepal, India and England. The result of the project will be a doctoral dissertation on Nepalese Sanskrit manuscript culture in transition: the influence of Western book-culture and a related article.
