The Multi-Scale Physics of Star and Cluster Formation — From Molecular Clouds to Stellar Feedback (B02)
Subject Area
Astrophysics and Astronomy
Term
from 2011 to 2022
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 138713538
Understanding how star clusters form and how their stellar feedback affects the surrounding interstellar medium is a key problem in Milky Way studies. We will quantify the physics of star formation and feedback using a combined numerical and observational approach, building a database of semi-analytical cluster feedback models and using it to make predictions for important observable quantities. We will use state-of-the-art 3-D simulations to benchmark our semi-analytical models. We will also apply a novel statistical method to Large Magellanic Cloud observations and compare the empirical timeline of star-forming regions with the predictions of our numerical models.
