Based on our contributions to plant cell biology, we have established a number of research projects on different aspects of pH-homeostasis in the endomembrane system. All projects include in vivo imaging applications either using high-speed multi-colour imaging of markers for different compartments or genetically encoded fluorescent reporters that require state of the art confocal microscopy. Besides the requirement for the progress of our own research, the list of attached projects from three more laboratories documents the immanent need for this microscope. All the existing confocal microscopes are either not suitable or in intensive use and do not have free capacities to allow a continuation of our research.
