Dry Turning is one of the most important developments in manufacturing technology. A central challenge is a significant higher warming of the treated component compared to wet machining that leads geometrical and dimensional deviations of the machined part. Up to the present day it is not possible to calculate these deviations based on the contour of a blank part, that are caused by dry turning as a function of applied processing sequence and cutting parameters. So far published models need experimental data to determine the heat input into a raw part. The aim of the submitted research project is to develop a full computational model that allows the predetermination of the expected thermal-elastic part deformation caused by dry turning and finally its compensation. The innovative approach of this research project is to calculate the heat input into the raw part based on the FEM-simulation of chip formation with respect to the cutting conditions. The FEM-simulation of the thermal part deformation is based on the calculated heat input. The developed computational model allows the calculation of part deformation for rotational symmetric components derived from the contour of a blank part with respect to the cutting conditions in advance. In this sense the cutting conditions and cut distribution can be adapted and the heat input minimized. Finally it is possible to compensate geometrical and dimensional deviations of the machined part without experimental investigations.
