Modularity, energy efficiency and resource-saving design and application will require in the future products from micro manufacturing, in order to be successful on the global market. Current micro production plants are still far from design flexibility and have an unfavorable installation space to work space ratio. In the first funding period, a modular and configurable cube-shaped production cube module (PCM) with cooperative trajectory generation has been designed and analyzed that provides the needed flexibility in regard to size and drive systems as well as a significantly improved installation to work space ratio. Fundamental research for designing the PCM with respect to structure, trajectory generation, periphery design and system behavior from the first funding period will be continued in the renewal proposal. The miniaturization still demanded in the renewal proposal includes an new challenge by integrating the modular drive systems and the periphery so far developed. A monolithical design of a machine module will be investigated in regard to rigidity, flexibility, path accuracy and economic efficiency. For the cooperative trajectory generation the PCM will be extended by 5-axes machining. The comparison of PCM-internal interfaces between modules and periphery is to show whether a SPP-spanning harmonization will lead to an overall solution of the interface problem. Methods and possibilities for increasing the accuracy and the dynamic behavior of the PCM will be developed further. Here a calibration system for determining the machine capacity will be integrated and a virtual environment for simulating the dynamic behavior of the PCM will be established. This allows integration, function test and control adaptation of other modules from the SPP project. Finally, a reconfigurably production unit is built from the modules and assessed based on the process of the test workpiece.
