Project Details
Evaluation of the Condition of a Jet Engine through Exhaust Jet Analysis (A03)
Subject Area
Hydraulic and Turbo Engines and Piston Engines
Term
from 2010 to 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 119193472
The sub-project uses the optical Background-Oriented Schlieren (BOS) method to investigate the influence of defective components in the hot-gas path (HGP) of jet engines on the density distribution of the exhaust jet. The density distribution is linked to the defective component in the HGP by means of numerical simulations and pattern recognition algorithms. The aim of this sub-project is the application and validation of the automated defect detection methodology to a civil turbofan engine with defined defects. This allows for defect detection without disassembly under real operation conditions of the jet engine.
