Ob-Ugric languages: conceptual structures, lexicon, constructions, categories - "An innovative approach to creating descriptive resources for Khanty and Mansi"
Zusammenfassung der Projektergebnisse
The project “Ob-Ugric Languages” has provided online descriptive resources for two endangered Ob-Ugric languages Khanty (Ostyak), Kazym and Surgut dialects, and Mansi (Vogul), Northern and Eastern dialects. It consists of a text corpus (for all four dialects), edictionaries (two separate interfaces for semasiological and onomasiological queries to the text corpus, linked with the etymological database “Uralonet”), an e-grammar, the Ob-Ugric bibliographical database with different search functions, and an e-library (PDF-files or links to other open resources). All modules are embedded in the Ob-BABEL portal; it combines information on the project itself and the subject area with database interfaces, interactive tools, multimedia libraries and links to all major resources on the Ob-Ugric languages and culture, thus forming a comprehensive gateway to this field of interest. The complete online system is provided with a differentiated user system that controls access, editing and surveillance (e.g. for text and bibliography coordinators). This special design allows for collaborative working at all time and in all places. This portal created at the University of Munich (http://babel.gwi.uni-muenchen.de) has separate pages: the “Encyclopaedic section” (including the Ob-Ugric bibliographical database, e-library, fieldwork archives, information on the history of Ob-Ugric research) and the “Linguistic section” (including text corpus, transliteration tables, e-dictionaries and egrammar). The e-library includes i.a. three recent monographs on Khanty ethnography by the AP Prof. Lukina, under “Teaching materials” there can be found practical courses of Kazym Khanty by the APs Dr. Solovar and Dr. Koshkareva, and a new revised, enlarged edition of the Northern Mansi textbook augmented with audio files, prepared in the course of this project by Elena Skribnik and the AP Dr. Afanasyeva. Of particular mention is the online searchable version of the Mansi-Hungarian-German dictionary by B. Munkácsi and B. Kálmán (1986), the result of immense work of the Hungarian team.
