Koordination des SPP 1400

Subject Area Prehistory and World Archaeology
Term from 2009 to 2017
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 128675780

The objectives of the coordination project can be divided into the areas of general, conceptual and content-related goals. In the framework of general coordination, the primary aim of the third phase of the project is to support the individual projects in successfully completing their research goals. This includes facilitating communications among the involved scientists, promoting networking within the national and international research community, enabling a greater exchange of data among the subprojects, supporting the presentation and publication of results by organizing and carrying out section workshops and conferences and coordinating publications in the SPP publication series. For this purpose, the implementation of regular workshops, the upgraded website, editorial work in the context of the SPP-series, and especially the transformation of the database systems in a new phase will be continued. Within the conceptual framework, three areas of focus will be emphasized: firstly an expansion of further possibilities for the evaluation of previously recorded data for new interpretation contexts, secondly creation and operation of a central platform for questions and assistance for statistical analyses and thirdly development and expansion of interpretative approaches, which will merge the results of the individual projects and adjacent regions. Regarding content-related objectives, cross-cutting issues which deal with the entire working area and time period will be addressed and on the basis of data of the coordination and recorded data of the individual subprojects, further indications beyond these issues will be emphasized. Such an approach includes the application of: typochronology, distribution pattern, use of quantitative data, e.g.14C curves for historical interpretations. The coordination project aims to present the results of the six-year activities of the entire SPP in the form of a major international conference as well as in a final publication in the SPP publication series. Parallel to this, the recorded data will be introduced to the public in a validated and easily accessible fashion. The investigations and the results of the projects will also be presented to the general public in the form of an exhibition. Concomitantly, the promotion of the Open Access Online Publication of partial aspects of the individual projects will be continued.
