Project Details
In situ NMR spectroscopy as a tool to investigate inter-ionic distances, molecular interactions and dynamics in ionic liquids
Applicant
Professor Dr. Ralf Giernoth
Subject Area
Organic Molecular Chemistry - Synthesis and Characterisation
Term
from 2008 to 2015
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 92117964
In continuation of our preceding research project within the SPP 1191 we are extending our work on the application of modern NMR spectroscopic techniques in ionic liquids to new methods. With these, we are going to study distances, interactions and dynamics of and in ionic liquids on a very fundamental level.Various NOE experiments will give insight into the interactions between ILs and solute molecules. These methods will—in combination with DFT calculations and MD simulations provided by cooperation partners within the SPP—also been used for the determination of molecular distances (or, more precisely, preferred probabilities of presence) in the liquid phase. The dynamics of ILs will be studied via diffusion NMR and compared with a variety of other spectroscopic and theoretical methods in cooperation with other groups within the SPP.
