International Collaboration in Chemistry: Redox Control of Chemical Bond Forming Reactions

Subject Area Inorganic Molecular Chemistry - Synthesis and Characterisation
Term from 2008 to 2011
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 82900100

The aim of this project is to develop electrocatalytic methods for enantioselective chemical bond forming reactions based on a mechanistic understanding of the one-electron redox chemistry. We will seek to understand the recently described terpyridine-based nickel complexes under catalytically relevant conditions by electrochemical and spectroelectrochemical methods (EPR and UV/vis/NIR) and get thus insight into the catalytic mechanisms. Based on this we want to design new ligands for redox-triggered enantioselective cross-coupling reactions. Furthermore we would like to extend the application of nickel based cross coupling reaction to further substrates and thus develop the preparative electrocatalytic cross-coupling reactions.
