Project Details
Triple-grating Vis/UV Raman micro-spectrometer
Subject Area
Mineralogy, Petrology and Geochemistry
Term
from 2008 to 2010
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 68871271
The Raman spectrometer will be used for studying the atomic rearrangements during phase transitions, the fine-scale structure in crystalline and disordered synthetic materials and minerals, and for mapping the structural alteration in submicron-scale inhomogeneous materials. The Raman signalsare directly related to the symmetry and bonding of definite atomic groups. We will apply Raman spectroscopy to ferroelastic and ferroelectric complex oxides of perovskite- and pyrochlore-type, dental hydroxyapatite, biocompatible apatite-based composites, metamict minerals etc. The obtained results will be of fundamental importance as well as of technological significance for tailoring new synthetic materials and for the functionalisation of minerals.
