This project aims at a quantitative description of the influence of multivalency on the intreractions in biologically relevant model systems in quasi one- and two-dimensional geometries. Single-Molecule Force Spectroscopy shall be used to quantify the binding of single multivalent glycoproteins with its ligands. Scanning Force Microscopy shall be used to investigate multimerisations to supramolecular copolymers. Finally, the multivalency of graphene layers functionalized with polyglycerols shall be used to conformly coat viruses and bacteria in order to block the biological response of these pathogens.
