Structure and dynamics of the protein O-mannosylation machinery (A18)

Subject Area Cell Biology
Term from 2008 to 2015
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5485988

Project Description

Protein translocation in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and protein glycosylation are intimately connected, fundamental processes of eukaryotic cells. Nascent polypeptide chains are N-glycosylated and O-mannosylated while they are entering the ER. Translocation and N-glycosylation take place on a large molecular machine, the translocon complex (TC). In order to understand the molecular basis of coupling protein translocation and N-glycosylation with protein O-mannosylation we aim to analyze the molecular architecture of the O-mannosylation machinery and its macromolecular association with the TC complex.
