Project Details
Trends and variability of oxygen inventory, supply and consumption in the eastern tropical North Atlantic (ETNA) oxygen minimum zone (A04)
Subject Area
Oceanography
Term
from 2008 to 2019
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 27542298
The objective of A4 is to understand how the oxygen minimum zone (OMZ) of the Eastern Tropical North Atlantic is maintained by ocean circulation and what the scales are of temporal variability in OMZs and the physical supply of oxygen to them. It is based on shipboard, glider, and continuous long-term moored observations. A special focus is on tracer measurements for the evaluation of water mass age and consumption within the OMZ. A4 will determine oxygen and current variability on intra-seasonal to decadal time scales and compare observational results with SFB 754 model simulations aiming at understanding causes and mechanisms of oxygen variability in the ETNA.
