In sub-project A01, methods for the design of structures made from reused RC elements are developed. Lacking its free formability, concrete must be used structurally as fixed elements with mainly angular shaped geometries with multiple uncertainties. These elements form an adaptive construction kit from which new global structures are designed. The project pursues two interrelated lines of research. In the utilisationaware approach (1), optimal compliance with the bearing capacity guides the structural design, in the form-aware approach (2) the approximation and adaptation of global structural geometries with existing elements does. The key criterion is sustainability with GHG emissions as the benchmark.
