Replacement of console and probehead 500 MHz NMR spectrometer

Project identifier

The university's 500 MHz nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrometer, which has been in continuous operation since 2008, is to have the spectrometer console and the most frequently used and therefore worn probehead replaced. The magnet and other, less frequently used probeheads will continue to be used. The device technology has developed significantly since the spectrometer was put into operation. The research focus of the device users has also shifted and additional user groups have been added. These developments are to be taken into account on the one hand by an increase in capacity due to the faster measurement technology resulting from the use of several receivers in modern spectrometer consoles (existing console: 1 receiver) and the higher sensitivity of the sample head (improvement by a factor of 2 for the hydrogen isotope 1H). In addition, the proposal also aims to expand the portfolio in the direction of measuring atomic nuclei with very low resonance frequencies (below 109 Ag), which have become relevant for several research projects. The existing device is entering its 17th year of operation. This year, the manufacturer's support for this generation of NMR spectrometers will expire. In order to avoid a total failure of the device and to take advantage of the more favorable price conditions that are currently being offered due to the expiring support, the electronic components of the device should therefore be replaced as soon as possible.
