Interaction of atmospheric boundary layers and oceanic mixed layers with very large turbines in offshore wind farms (A07*)

Subject Area Fluid Mechanics
Term since 2025
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 434502799

Project Description

Subproject A07 is dedicated to investigating the effects caused by specific atmospheric phenomena, such as low-level jets, coherent structures, roll convection or mesocale instationarity on offshore megastructures. Three-dimensional lidar-based measurements and turbulence-resolving simulations (LES) are carried out for this purpose. Suitable lidar measurement and evaluation methods will be developed with the help of LES and LES will be validated with lidar measurements. LES will also be used to analyse wake effects of wind farms in the atmospheric and oceanic boundary layer including feedback processes. The results of A07 also include the characterisation of wind fields for the digital twin.
