HIVE: Heterogeneous test environment for intelligent, networked and electrified aviation systems (Partial financing)

Subject Area Systems Engineering
Term Funded in 2024
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 550777201

HIVE serves as a representative and flexible research environment for addressing the chal-lenges of future air transportation. The success of HIVE relies on the collaboration of its vari-ous components: 1. An electric CS-23 aircraft: To investigate the certification and enhance the efficiency of full electric personal transportation. 2. Small-scale UAS and a heavy lift transport drone: To ensure a safe interaction between drones, air traffic, pedestrians, and city infrastructure. 3. CS-25 Cockpit and systems simulator: To study new piloting concepts, automation, single-pilot operations, and the effective sharing of airspace. 4. System and data integration: To interconnect HIVE components via high-bandwidth, always-on datalinks, high-volume cloud storage and simulation software. By supporting real, virtual, or hybrid test campaigns, HIVE creates a robust platform for conducting in-depth research on future large-scale air transportation systems.
