The Friedrich Schiller University Jena is a leading institution for polymer research in Germany with a particular focus on the development of responsive and sustainable polymers, but also focusing on polymeric materials for energy and health applications. A detailed characterization of these materials enables in-depth insights into the molecular processes taking place and, consequently, the establishment of structure-property relationships. Rheology is a highly important method for the characterization of these polymers, as it provides insights into the dynamic behavior of reversible materials, but also enables the determination of the thermomechanical properties. The expansion of the characterization portfolio of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena with a new rheometer will provide new possibilities for the material characterization of responsive polymers and polymers for energy storage and conversion. In particular, the possibility of Raman spectroscopy during rheological investigations, but also the use of electro-rheology and dielectric spectroscopy, will lead to new structure-property relationships for polymers and materials thereof.
