Historicizing Comparisons (S02*)

Project S02 investigates how practices of comparing that are constituted through media and materiality impact processes of historicization. The mediality and materiality of historicizing comparisons shape the emergence of concepts of 'history' as general understandings on a macro-level. At the same time, these general understandings influence the respective practices. The project thus integrates two principal questions of the CRC: It addresses the contingent effects of mediality and materiality on practices of comparing as well as the interrelations between comparison and historicization.
