Subject Area Biogerontology and Geriatric Medicine
Term since 2024
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 549888584

The topic of our international network is "Prehabilitation prior to cardiac procedures" and focuses on frail and older individuals. The network consists of experts in the field of (cardiac) prehabilitation and/or rehabilitation, geriatrics, cardiology, cardio-thoracic surgery, anaesthesiology, neurology, psychocardiology, psychology, sports science, nutrition, and physiotherapy. Our network aims to optimize the health of geriatric patients prior to cardiac procedures and draws upon the perspectives of experts in the fields of geriatrics, cardiac surgery/cardiology and cardiac rehabilitation. Over the next three years, our interdisciplinary network aims to achieve the following mile-stones: 1a. Systematic review and meta-analysis of prehabilitation interventions, 1b. Review and summary of current guidelines, consensus statements about prehabilitation prior to a cardiac procedure, 2. Consensus of cardiac prehabilitation program prior to cardiac procedures, 3. Prepare consensus article of prehabilitation recommendations in cardiac patients, 4. National and international dissemination of network outcomes. During the first network meeting, working groups will be formed in the areas of literature research, review of guidelines, modules specialists, screening tools, and clinical pathways in order to work efficiently as well as to achieve the pre-specified milestones. The great advantage of an interdisciplinary and multi-professional network lies in the diverse experience ist members have gained in past and ongoing prehabilitation studies. The decision as to which network members participate in each working group will be based on the interests and expertise of the network members themselves.
