SFB 466:  Lymphoproliferation and viral immunodeficiency

Subject Area Medicine
Biology
Term from 1996 to 2007
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5480642

The collaborative research centre 466 is focussed at the controlmechanism of haematopoetic cells in viral immunodeficiency and lymphatic tumors. It is one goal to identify and understand the mechanisms involved in AIDS pathogenesis at a molecular and structural level. Among the topics of this collaborative research centre are viral effector proteins, immune evasion, dendriticcells, HIV-specific cytotoxic T cell response and expression of viralgenes. The common denominator of the projects is the question ofactivation and growth stimulation of lymphoid cells. There is a delicate balance of activation, proliferation, and destruction in every cell, and these divergent functions are often regulated by overlapping the same signal transduction pathways. It is the aim of the collaborative research centre to investigate the basic mechanism involved in these processes in lymphocytes. The research topics are apoptosis, controlled activation and malignant transformation by viral gene products. The collaborative research centre tries to contribute to the understanding of transformation of haematopoetic cells and tumor progression in the lymphatic systems.
